Joy Harjo receives Wallace Stevens Award

Poet Joy Harjo was just awarded the Wallace Stevens Award, a $100,000 prize given annually to recognize outstanding and proven mastery in the art of poetry. Congratulations, Joy Harjo, that your body of work was honored and recognized today.

The Academy of American Poets praised Harjo for: “Incorporating native traditions of prayer and myth into a powerfully contemporary idiom, her visionary justice-seeking art transforms personal and collective bitterness to beauty, fragmentation to wholeness, and trauma to healing.”

In addition, Harjo, recently shared why she is using LeAnne Howe’s Choctalking on Other Realities for her graduate memoir topics class. Check out Harjo’s thoughts on why Choctalking on Other Realities is so special.
