Announcing the Aunt Lute Covid-19 Fundraiser

April 30, 2020

In difficult times, reading offers a salve and an anchor to our shared humanity. Aunt Lute has always held this belief close. And now, in the midst of a global pandemic, our commitment to serving our community by publishing the writings of marginalized peoples remains steadfast. But the sad truth is that we need your help to do it.

We are seeking to raise $10,000 by July 1, directly funding the salary of two of our most essential employees for three months. With SBA funds being allocated to big businesses with major banking connections, and with limited grants available to alleviate the extreme stress the arts nonprofit sector is under, this is our only hope of maintaining our business. For 38 years, Aunt Lute has worked tirelessly to empower the voices silenced by patriarchy and racism. These same voices are the ones made most vulnerable by crises. If we do not continue to tell their stories in times of hardship, we erase their experiences and perpetuate discrimination.

We implore anyone who is able to donate now and save the jobs of our small team. Anyone who has read one of our books knows the value we bring to the cultural apparatus. We understand that many are in financial struggle in this time, and we ask that only those with salaries, PTO, or those who have been less financially impacted to consider giving to this extremely important cause.
