Join flesh to bone author ire’ne lara silva for an evening celebrating the release of her latest book of poetry, which “probes the ways that love, justice and forgiveness help heal our individual selves and our communities.” A limited number of copies of Blood Sugar Canto will be available for sale at the event, and can be pre-ordered through the author’s website.

Caressing the Flame: Writing the Difficult Four-hour writing workshop (plus one-hour lunch break), $65 payment and registration required in advance Saturday, January 23, 2016 @ 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. Emma S. Barrientos Mexican American Cultural Center 600 River Street, Austin, TX

Offered for the first time in a year, this four-hour workshop (plus one-hour lunch break) explores the art of writing difficult life experiences to create ‘poetry or prose that is alive, present, authentic, and risky.” Ire’ne welcomes writers of all levels and genres. Nancy Agabian, author of Me as her again

Nancy’s essay “Meeting the Man on the Street,” published in Kweli Journal last month, explores the racial categorizations of Armenians and Armenian Americans through personal, historical, legal, and social lenses. You can read it here.
